Westat’s Multimode Manager (M3)

As more and more projects implement multimode data collection as part of their study design, the need for a single, integrated system that manages data collection modes, tracks participants, manages contacts, and supports downstream services is paramount.

M3 is Westat’s software platform for establishing a robust integrated environment for conducting multimode surveys and managing complex and diverse survey processes.

Serves as a hub to multiple systems and applications responsible for specific data collection modes (e.g., field, web, phone) or communications modes (e.g., mail, email, text), and incentive handling.

Tracks detailed protocol execution history as well as can serve as a study management system, survey launcher, and support desk platform.

Services can be configured for each project using established mechanisms for survey process management.

Types of Projects

If you have a multimode project or a project that needs to integrate with the TRC, Teleform, BFOS, or Pd3 systems, you should consider using M3. Whether your project needs to simply push and pull data from these established Westat systems, or your project needs a study management system to control the flow of your protocol, M3 is ready.  No matter if your project is large or small, M3 can be right-sized to fit your needs.

Data Sources

The M3 task manager engine integrates the different data collection production lines according to the study protocol, keeping things moving and tracking outcomes across all production lines.

The M3 task manager engine integrates the different data collection production lines according to the study protocol, keeping things moving and tracking outcomes across all production lines. The back-end process moves data in near real-time between systems and executes task services. Some production lines that have been integrated with M3 include: Blaise, Verint, SurveyBuilder for web data collection, Teleform for hardcopy processing, Voxco, Blaise, and Cheshire for CATI operations, BFOS for CAPI operations, BEST for bio-marker sample tracking and specimen management, EAGLE for GIS analysis, and CARI Coding for quality control.

M3 is used as a repository for most CATI projects, and Voxco and Blaise integrations are now standard. We encourage most of the projects to use M3, if they haven’t already, because it makes things easier.
